London Google Summit 2017


November 18 and 19 I had an amazing privilege to attend the Google EdTech Summit in London Ontario. In this post I want to share some amazing extensions I discovered. One that truly  will change my life Doc appender. 
So I'll start with the one that will change my life. Imagine one document to keep track of student progress. All forms connected to one document that is updated when you submit the form. Here is the slide show from the session with Leslie McBeth. A dynamic inspirational, #renegadeoptimist.

The next was Kim Pollishuke. I loved her larger than life spirit and enthusiasm for student learning and streamlining workflow. With add-ons and extensions that will streamline your day. My favourite was extensity(organize add-ons) tab resize(split your screen in two clicks)and tab glue (replaces tabs)

Juan deLuca from Mexico shared some great tools to bring presentations to life. I was most impressed with his keynote speech where he shared student work and also shared that he was hired as an administrator however insisted that he remained in the classroom  for one period a day. This was profound because I think that it shows his passion for being connected with the ever changing field of education. Building empathy for his colleagues. From his session I was most impressed by Thinglink. It allows you to bring your photo's to life with video. The app makes it easy to bring thinking to life.



 The last take away isn't in a link to a session, it isn't another add-on but...... a spark to ignite the fire.

Innovator's Mind Set...in the begining

Why is innovation so crucial in education today? Innovation, when I think of the word, I think of a brilliant lightbulb, illuminated over the head of a person sitting at a desk. Eureka you might suggest is flowing from his mouth and they have a finger pointed to the sky. Isn't that, what we want most of our students to look like. Students with ideas resonating, asking questions upon question. Making connection through learning. Yet often we get the opposite, most students just want the answer to the worksheet to be in compliance with you the teacher so that they can get the grade to make their parents happy. Mark hungry students who can't seem to understand that learning is a process. Their parents know the drill, pay attention, memorize get good grades. Two semesters in a row I was fortunate to teach a gifted student who didn't need to be in my course to get the credit. He took grade 12 calculus instead of my grade 10 science. A Brand New school #IMMOOC

This past year I had the opportunity to meet students from the I nspiring children foundation located in Las Vegas Nevada.(I know most people go to Vegas to do other things I pursue my love of tennis and education).  They are students who are exceptional athletes who run individual study projects to support their dreams and the quest for happiness. Kids had passion for life and were learning subjects on their own while committing to individual study projects. They were very inspirational many of them living far away from home. Students were close knit and had adult mentors for support. The kids seemed confident, happy and determined to be successful. CORE VALUES: If I had to design my own school, I would want to design with the end in mind. There would be core values that would be created by creative inspiring and innovative educators and students. These values would revolve around the power of knowledge.
